West Ashley is the oldest suburb in Charleston and refers to a large area west of the Charleston peninsula, which is either in the City of Charleston or in Charleston County. It is a suburban area that features many older neighborhoods, with a large selection of moderately priced homes. There are also some beautiful executive neighborhoods with deep water lots and views of the Ashley River, tidal marshes, and creeks.
